Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna H Laoly inaugurated the Immigration Checkpoint (TPI) at Marina Ancol Pier, Jakarta on Wednesday.

In his speech, Yasonna said TPI Marina Ancol Pier was expected to facilitate services for foreign tourists who want to travel to Indonesia, especially Jakarta.

"As the President expects, we will continue to provide services to the public, especially in regard to looking after foreign guests who travel to Indonesia," said Yasonna.

West Jakarta Special Class I Immigration Office collaborated with PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol in establishing TPI Marina Ancol Pier.

Yasonna expressed the hope that TPI could increase the number of visits by foreign-owned yachts. He added that their presence could affect the economy of the local community because the owners of yachts generally are higher-income tourists.

"We are trying to initiate collaboration with Ancol. We’ve opened [TPI] here because there already are yachts, foreign guests, who come here so we’re facilitating them with TPI Marina Ancol Pier, "he explained.

Jakarta Law and Human Rights Agency head Bambang Sumardiono said the operation of TPI Marina Ancol Pier was implemented based on Ministerial Decree No. 3/2018 issued in March.

"All this time, many cruise ships that entered or transited in Indonesia anchored in Tanjung Priok Port, while Tanjung Priok is a freight port. So, from now on cruise ships are expected to be transferred to Ancol," he said.

In attendance at the inauguration were ministry secretary general Bambang Rantam Sariwanto, Director General of Immigration Ronny F Sompie, Jakarta provincial secretary Saefullah and PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol president director C. Paul Tehusijarana.
