Menko Polhukam and Menkumham Open Repatriation Opportunities for Victims of Serious Human Rights Violations in Czech Republic

Prague – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam), Mahfud MD, and Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham), Yasonna Laoly, visited the Czech Republic to provide repatriation opportunities for victims of past serious human rights violations. The victims, especially former Student with Service Bond (Mahid) were given convenience through visa, stay permit, and re-entry permits priority services, all free of charge. Menkumham ensures priority services for former Mahid in the Czech Republic when obtaining citizenship and immigration documents for visiting Indonesia, or even for reacquisition of Indonesian citizenship. "Of the 14 former Mahid in the Czech Republic, 13 of them have Czech citizenship, while one person has Indonesian citizenship. The Ministry of Law and Human Rights guarantees priority service if they want to return to Indonesia," said Yasonna in Prague on Monday (28/08/2023). Yasonna said that the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has issued regulations that allow 14 former Mahid in the Czech Republic to obtain visa, residence permit, and re-entry permit services for free. "Victims of serious human rights violations are given zero rupiah charge for immigration services," said Yasonna during his visit with Mahfud MD. For the Czech region, priority services for former Mahid can be obtained by submitting an application to the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Czech Republic. The KBRI will then follow up the application until it receives a recommendation from the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. As of today, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has given Priority Immigration Services to 5 (five) former Mahid since the kick off for Non-Judicial Settlement of Past Serious Human Rights Violations in Pidie Aceh on June 27, 2023, namely to: 1. Ing. Jaroni Soejomartono, in the form of a Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) valid for 1 (one) year. 2. Prof. Sudaryanto Yanto Priyono, in the form of a Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) valid for 1 (one) year. 3. Sri Budiarti Tunruang, in the form of a Multiple Entry Visa with a validity period of 5 (five) years. 4. WAHJUNI KANSILOVA in the form of a Multiple Entry Visa with a validity of 5 (five) years. 5. SISWARTONO SARODJO in the form of a Multiple Entry Visa with a validity of 5 (five) years. Overall, based on data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the current total number of ex-Mahid is 139 people with 138 are spread across 10 European countries and 1 in an Asian country. The Netherlands is the country with the most ex-Mahid (67 people), followed by the Czech Republic (14 people). In Russia, there is only 1 ex-Mahid, but there are 38 descendants of ex-Mahid. Meanwhile, the only non-European country where an ex-Mahid reside is Syria (1 person). One of the ex-Mahids is currently seriously ill and wish to be buried in Indonesia. Yasonna's visit to the Czech Republic is an effort by the government to follow up on the resolution of gross human rights non-judicially. The Government Representative was led by Menko Polhukam together with Menkumham and accompanied by the Indonesian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Special Staff of the Menkumham for Foreign Affairs, Director of Immigration Stay Permits, and Director of Human Rights Communication Services. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) and the team for Non-Judicial Settlement of Past Serious Human Rights Violations (PPHAM).
