Rudenim Pekanbaru Moves 26 Rohingya Asylum Seekers Victims of TIP to Refugee Shelter

PEKANBARU - A total of 27 Rohingya asylum seekers from Myanmar were transferred from the Immigration Detention Center (IDC) to the Pekanbaru Refugee Shelter, Monday (24/07/2023). The transfer was carried out through the handover of asylum seekers from Rudenim to the Pekanbaru Office of National Unity and Politics (Kesbangpol) as the daily executor of the Overseas Refugee Handling Task Force. "Twenty-six of them are part of the 29 foreign victims of Trafficking in Persons (TIP) who were handed over by the Dumai Class I Checkpoint Immigration Office to the Pekanbaru IDC on June 6, 2023. Twenty-four of them were found by the Dumai Navy (Lanal) on the coast of Medang Kampai District, Dumai on May 13, 2023. While four others were in the Silincing Waters of Medang Kampai District, Dumai on June 3, 2023," explained the Head of the Pekanbaru IDC, Panogu H. D. Sitanggang. In addition, there was a Myanmar citizen with the initials MDAR who was found by PT. Kawasan Industri Dumai (PT. KID) on the coast of Dumai. The Myanmar citizen was reported to the Dumai Police and then handed over to the Dumai Class I Checkpoint Immigration Office on May 13, 2023. "We have coordinated with the Pekanbaru UNHCR Representative. From the 29 people, only 26 of them confirmed as Myanmar citizens of Rohingya ethnicity with asylum seeker status. While the other three people are Bangladeshi citizens and have immigrant status," continued Sitanggang. In addition to the 26 asylum seekers, the Riau Regional Police (Polda) found an asylum seeker in the Pelintung Village Forest, Medan Kampai District - Dumai. He was registered as an asylum seeker for Myanmar Rohingya ethnicity in Mina Raya, Pidie - Aceh. After being handed over to the Pekanbaru City Kesbangpol, 18 of them were placed at the Siak Resort Hotel and nine others were placed at the Nevada Hotel. The transfer process was closely monitored by seven Pekanbaru Rudenim officers.
