Passport service fraud is currently rampant, the public is advised to be more vigilant. Previously, passport service fraud was widely carried out through the spreading of false information on Google Reviews of immigration offices. Now, the irresponsible individuals are using social media, by creating a Facebook page that uploads images taken from the official social media account of the Directorate General of Immigration (DGI). "On the fraudulent social media page, in addition to uploading images belonging to the DGI, the perpetrators also attached their WhatsApp number that victims can contact for assistance in applying for a passport. We urge the public to be careful. Not only about the cost, but the applicant's personal data is also at risk of being misused," said the Sub-Coordinator of Public Relations of the DGI, Achmad Nur Saleh, Monday (08/14/2023). Achmad also reminded the public to ignore anyone offering assistance with passport applications via SMS, telephone and WhatsApp. The official passport services are only through the M-Passport Application. With the M-Passport Application, passport applicants are guaranteed to only pay the fee for passport services in accordance with applicable regulations. Applicants also immediately receive a notification for the chosen interview schedule that is recorded digitally via the QR-Code appearing on their M-Passport after the payment is made. Applicants are required to make payment according to the passport billing code, no later than 2 (two) hours after the code is received. "The Passport fee in accordance with Government Regulation Number 28 of 2019 is IDR 350,000 for regular passports and IDR 650,000 for electronic passports with laminated sheets or polycarbonate sheets.
