A Sponsor is an individual or corporation responsible for the presence and activities of a Foreigner during their stay in Indonesian territory. (Article 1 Number 26 of Law No. 6 of 2011)
Article 63 Law No. 6 of 2011
(1) Certain Foreigners residing in Indonesian territory must have a Sponsor guaranteeing their presence.
(2) The Sponsor is responsible for the Foreigner's activities and presence during their stay and must report any changes in civil status, immigration status, and address.
(3) The Sponsor must cover expenses for deporting or removing the sponsored Foreigner from Indonesian territory if:
a. Their stay permit expires; or
b. They face administrative immigration measures, including deportation
(4) Sponsorship requirements do not apply to Foreigners lawfully married to Indonesian citizens.
Article 118 Law No. 6 of 2011
Any Sponsor intentionally providing false information or failing to fulfill sponsorship obligations under Article 63(2) and (3) shall be punished with imprisonment for up to 5 years and a fine of up to IDR 500,000,000.
